CÁCERES HERITAGE FOR MANKIND

Cáceres, the Capital town has remains dating back from the Upper Paleolithic, for example the cave paintings in “ La Cueva de Maltavieso”. In the year 25 b. c. the Romans came and settled their camps in Norba Caesarina, next to the most important communication way “ La Vía de la Plata ”.

There are some Roman remains still in Cáceres and well as Moorish. It were the Arabs who built the city walls and the towers.

In 1229 Cáceres became part of the “Reino de León” and a number of palaces and manor houses started to be built around the town, being the 15 th and 16 th centuries the most magnificent period.

Caceres 's historic and artistic site is impressive and was declared Heritage for Mankind in 1986.

Nowadays this town in undergoing a continuous growth being the second town in the region regarding commercial activity.
